Antioxidants are the latest buzzword in health care today! Antioxidant
is a classification of several organic substances, including vitamins
C and E, vitamin A (which is converted from beta-carotene), selenium
(a mineral), and a group known as the carotenoids. Antioxidants
along with a good multi-vitamin are necessary as due to many busy
lifestyles and careers, many of us are not getting all of our daily
nutrients and vitamins from our food choices. Dietary supplementation
of antioxidants help boost the immune system and help the body fight
off damaging free radicals which lead to cancer and other ailments
including heart disease and stroke. Antioxidants have even been
added to cosmetics to help fight against damaging elements causing
the skin to age and wrinkle. Many wrinkle creams contain antioxidants
as well as vitamin C to combat these undesirable effects.
Antioxidants High levels of free radicals literally
wreak havoc on your body leading to an overall feeling of weakness
and lethargy. This all can be minimized by antioxidant supplementation.
Be sure to include an antioxidant to your daily diet and exercise
regime!
A new French study has shown that antioxidant supplementation alleviates
muscle damage during periods of both regular and heavy (overload)
training. MD+ AntiOx and MVM provide the supplement foundation for
all levels of athletic activity.
The double-blind study was performed at the University of Nice
in France and involved 17 triathletes. They were given a mixture
of Selenium, Vitamin A and Vitamin C and put through 4 weeks of
overloaded training followed by 4 weeks of normal training.
The triathletes in the treatment group had a significantly elevated
level of glutathione in response to the antioxidant supplementation,
as well as increased activity of erythrocyte Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase
and plasma glutathione peroxidase activity in response to the overload
training.
The authors conclude that:
'the antioxidant mixture helped to preserve the antioxidant system
during an overload training-induced stress in subjects with initially
low antioxidant intakes. Effects of supplementation during normal
training and/or overload training are shown mostly by the alleviated
muscle damage.'

antioxidant response in physical training and low antioxidant intake.
